#46 It's Snowing

Introduction

Welcome to (not) the run report number #46. Numpty who has been filling in for the last few weeks has been omitting the numbers. Well this is number 46 for the record. We know he isn’t good with numbers unless it is the number of attendees at a parkrun.😂

This week’s lovely banner picture created by Lynda’s Maggie.

Lynda had a great suggestion for a competition to get the kids to draw a parkrun picture. What we thought would be a great idea is for the parents to send in their kids art and we would use one each week for the banner picture.

Send your kids submissions to rivervalley@parkrun.com

Or directly to Pete or Bryan on WhatsApp.

Hardy Bucks

Looking out at the wonderful snow this morning we are reminded of the original River Valley Hardy Bucks that took place back in 2018.

Alan, Artur, Cecile, Elma and Sigita did not let the snow get in the way of their run. It was one of the few occasions when River Valley was cancelled due to weather but they were having none of it. Although we did hear Elma saying she had no idea why she was there.

There was a beautiful madness to the run that day.

All things Pink and some Cake

Speaking of Alan, we know that he and Carmel were remembering Zoe yesterday for what would have been her 5th birthday. They were asking people to wear some pink when out running but more importantly to have some cake afterwards.

We would welcome any pictures that anyone took while out yesterday with their splendid pinkiness.

Alternatively we would also welcome donations of…………….cake!

There was also a lovely tribute on Saturday’s Zoom music session with Zoe’s Granddad, John, performing a beautiful rendition of Billy Joel’s “Goodnight My Angel”

In Picture: Margaret sporting her best pink top for Zoe yesterday!

Some Results

It is very fitting in the week that we lost Jerry Kiernan that a member of Clonliffe Harriers is top of the leader board. Nice to see Stephen Ryan’s name back near the top of the board. We know Stephen was recovering from injury and it clearly is well on the mend now.

Also interesting to see another name back on top. First female finisher this week (so far) is Cecile.

Visible in the picture above is Jack Ryan who takes the honour of first junior and also the first of our only two PB’s this week. However is the really fantastic stat, our first female junior this week is Leyla who is also the only other PB.

The whole inter-county thing seems to have dropped off the radar and we may look to revive it in order to encourage a few of you out. However at the moment we are holding onto 4th spot which is great but you can see our numbers are down from late last year.

The Strava Results

Well done to Stephen Reid who tops the table for the most distance covered. He is continuing to build on the recent achievement of 100 (not) parkruns.

Slawomir takes the top spot for the longest single run with a distance of 21.2 however it was a close run thing as Ross also has 21.2 and we are not sure how close it was as we don’t see the metres!

Bryan will be delighted to take the top spot for best overall pace with 4:44/km over a distance of 16km.

The Polish Runners Ireland get another honourable mention with Maciej taking the top spot for highest elevation of 502m and all within the 5km limit in Swords. That is no mean feat!

It’s Not Just for Musos

Our music Zoom session on Saturday nights is continuing on and going from strength to strength. We have guitar players, fiddle players, tin whistlers and singers.

Even if you are none of the above you are still very much welcome to join and listen in and spend some time with friends enjoying a bit of ceol agus craic.

This week we had eight people on and despite our fears Brian MacWeeeny did not join to give us another blast of his sweet dulce tones 😂😂😂

Honestly, if you just want to drop in and have a listen then do. It is a great way to while away a couple of hours and maybe get inspired to get more music into your life.

Speaking of Music

There was a cracking playlist on the Grove show this week. All tracks have a female name in the title. Brian shared the show as usual on Mixcloud: https://www.mixcloud.com/bjtucker/lynnes-female-names-playlist-22-january-2021/

Well worth having a listen.

In a break with tradition the team also complied the setlist into a playlist on Spotify. This is great because the only failing with the Mixcloud is that it is a challenge to cast it. With the the growing number of people using Amazon and Google speakers in the home casting is becoming an essential requirement.

Have listen to the playlist on Spotify here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0YBndaLadbcSPnhIkcYjPf?si=ATuwQZaUSZ6faum_PXGypA

The Grove Show is broadcast every second Friday on Near FM

Near FM is the community radio broadcasting arm of the Near Media Co-op. It is a Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) licensed, communally owned, not-for-profit radio station. It is operated by a democratic co-operative, open to all organisations and individuals living or working in Dublin North-East.

The Coffee Morning

The coffee morning continues too and this week was the biggest yet with 11 people joining for what became a Q&A with Eugene Coppinger who is one of the organisers of the Dublin City Marathon and works with both the FAI and EUFA. Last season Eugene was Covid safety officer for Shamrock Rovers.

There was a general consensus from the chat that if the DCM does go ahead this year that at that point parkrun will have also returned.

It was a great chat and good to get an insight into the complexities of large event organisation. For instance the medals for the marathon would have already been ordered by now ordinarily as they would have been delivered by overland transport. With the doubts still in place the medals will be shipped closer to the event by air.

We also had some laughs though particularly with Brian MacWeeney serenading Peter with Frankie Valli’s “My eyes adored you”. Pete is a bit scarred from the incident to be honest.

New Female parkrun World Record

Lynda was quick off the mark to report the new female parkrun world record. The record was taken by Laura Reid in a time of 15:45. Laura ran the time at Parramatta parkrun in Australia. The picture above also gives a clue to the heat as they were running in something like 27 degrees heat.

While we might be envious of the fact that parkrun is back in Australia they can keep their heat, thank you very much!

………...and finally

Well done to Francesco who got out this morning for a very brisk 16km run at a pace of 4:55/km.

Have a great week folks. Do stay safe. Do stay in touch. Do call someone you haven’t talked to in a while. Do log your (not) parkrun!!!!!!

Don’t forget to get the kids working on the artwork for the banner!   Remember it doesn’t even have to be a painting as Donnchadh’s piece below shows.
