#46 It's Snowing

Image
Introduction Welcome to (not) the run report number #46. Numpty who has been filling in for the last few weeks has been omitting the numbers. Well this is number 46 for the record. We know he isn’t good with numbers unless it is the number of attendees at a parkrun.😂 This week’s lovely banner picture created by Lynda’s Maggie. Lynda had a great suggestion for a competition to get the kids to draw a parkrun picture. What we thought would be a great idea is for the parents to send in their kids art and we would use one each week for the banner picture. Send your kids submissions to rivervalley@parkrun.com Or directly to Pete or Bryan on WhatsApp. Hardy Bucks Looking out at the wonderful snow this morning we are reminded of the original River Valley Hardy Bucks that took place back in 2018. Alan, Artur, Cecile, Elma and Sigita did not let the snow get in the way of their run. It was one of the few occasions when River Valley was cancelled due to weather but they were having none of it.

We'll get to the title in a minute but we can't start without pointing out the beautiful sky that could be seen on Friday morning. A few of you sent in pictures of the gorgeous sunrise but we were particularly taken by how beautiful Malahide marina is. While it can be hard to roll out of the bed and get going, an early morning run definitely has its perks. What a way to wake up! The Joys of Technology Where would we be without technology? Technology has definitely made things handier during lockdown for lots of us, whether it is through streaming services, keeping in touch through Zoom or gluing ourselves to our phones, it has made it a bit easier to stay inside.  Sam sporting her new runners, all you need to get out that door It has been said that running is a simple sport - put on your shoes and go! However, technology has had a huge impact on such a simple concept. Phones and watches have helped us to track our progress and wireless/bluetooth headphones have helped us to e

And We're Back . . .

Well, sort of. Okay, the title is a bit off-putting and we apologise for getting people's hopes up. However, we had a couple of our regular features back this week. Our Saturday morning coffee morning was back for the first time this year. This is a great way to catch up with those that we cannot get to see due to Level Five restrictions and is a nice way to spend a Saturday morning.  On Saturday, Andy brought back the fantastic music Zoom. There are many people that are afraid to join this as they do not play an instrument and feel like they can't sing. However, Andy is quick to point out that you do not have to sing or play to appreciate good music. A particular highlight this week was Cecile and Leyla's version of Memories by Maroon 5. We are very impressed, is there anything that these two cannot do! For those that are interested in joining in or just listening, keep an eye on the Whatsapp group for the Zoom details on a Saturday. Thanks to Pete and Andy for organisin

Happy New Year!

Some of our regulars enjoying their first runs of the New Year We here at River Valley parkrun would like to wish you all a very happy New Year. 2020 is behind us and while we are in Level 5 again, there is a lot to look forward to already this year, so let's focus on the positives and make the most of what we can.   A bit of Exploration Okay, let's be honest, level 5 is not the best way to start the year but there are undoubtedly some positives to it. In the last week, we have seen lots of people back out exploring their local environments and taking in both familiar and unfamiliar routes. Pictured above is the estuary which is gorgeous throughout the year but on a clear, bright day it really is a special place. Many people are taking the opportunity to run and walk around this gorgeous area.  Staying even closer to home, people are exploring our park again and are quickly realising how different it is in the winter in comparison to the summer. Little tip everyone, wear boots

Goodbye and Good Luck 2020, here's to 2021!

Okay, we know it is not quite over with yet but we are going to be as optimistic as we can for the future. It goes without saying that this year has been a very difficult one for everyone and that we are not quite out of the woods yet, but we can see some hope on the horizon that things are going to get better. We are going to cross all of our fingers and toes and hope that the vaccine rollout scheduled for the New Year will begin to see a return to 'normal' life. You never, know, we may even see a return to parkrun before December 2021 with any luck! A New Year's Resolution  On Monday 4th January, parkrun Resolution begins. This is an eight-week campaign in which parkrun are asking you to make one resolution that you will try to keep. Whether it is getting in an extra run or walk each week or trying to run a marathon a week, choose one thing that you hope to achieve and stick to. At the halfway mark (25th January), parkrun will bring the community together and applaud ev
